中澳传染病联合研究中心于2018年成立，由西安交通大学医学部与澳大利亚蒙纳士大学医学、护理与健康科学学院共同签署谅解备忘录正式建立。2019年9月，研究中心在西安交通大学中国西部科技创新港揭牌成立，由张磊教授担任首任主任。
自成立以来，中心发展迅速，从最初的4名成员，已成长为拥有80余名成员的跨学科研究团队。目前，中心拥有1名教授、2名副教授、4名博士后研究员、12名博士研究生和42名硕士研究生，并汇聚了来自中澳两校的多层次科研人才。短短数年间，研究中心已成为培养高水平公共卫生与传染病研究人才的重要基地。
研究中心的核心方向聚焦于人工智能、卫生经济学评价与流行病学建模，致力于将这些方法学与重大传染病和慢性病的防控实践紧密结合。中心利用理论流行病学、数学建模、大数据与人工智能技术，开展疾病监测预警、干预效果评估及政策模拟研究，为公共卫生决策提供科学依据。
近年来，研究中心积极拓展国内外合作网络，与多家知名科研机构和医疗机构建立长期伙伴关系，推动高水平学术交流与科研成果转化。中心科研成果丰硕，已在国际权威SCI期刊发表论文200余篇，并获得国家自然科学基金、国家级人才计划及国际合作等多渠道资助，累计经费超过1110万元人民币。
通过方法学创新与实际应用的结合，研究中心不仅成为西部地区传染病防控与公共卫生研究的重要平台，也成为深化中澳高水平科研合作的重要桥梁。
